#3 New country new culture

NEW COUNTRY NEW CULTURE

These articles are about international participants in the "Crack the Code" and their effort to get a job in Denmark. The participants ask why it's so easy for me to understand their challenges. I answer that I myself have relocation close to me.

TRAVELED AS A BOY AND RETURNED AS A MAN
After primary school, our oldest son traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin as an exchange student, where curfew for young people under 18, armed officers at high schools and some pregnant teenage girls was part of everyday life. Ruben had a wonderful year traveled as a boy and came home as a young man.

FROM DANISH BA TO GERMAN MASTER IN PARTICLE PHYSICS
Rune our middle son traveled to Göttingen in Germany to study in 2016. A quite different education system, very very far from AAU and a completely different culture. He spent a lot of hours on non-study related activities: Countless correspondence with Danish and German authorities, motivated applications for WGs (group home) and subsequent "speed dating" and so on.

A GERMAN IN DENMARK
Our youngest Malthe fell in love with a wonderful German woman who was on an exchange stay in Denmark. Today, Anika study biology at AAU. She is working very hard! At AAU from 8-16, then home assignments and in between the required 10-12 hours work to be SU eligible. It means that she is at work up to three times a week to have enough hours.

Three very different experiences, that have given me insight into how challenging it can be to integrate into new cultures, systems and countries.

STATUS ON CRACK THE CODE
Right now we have two participants who study on AAU and Aarhus University, one who has just been admitted to AAU in February, one who is looking for admission to a study next summer. In addition, one in wage subsidies work and five in Internships - you have already met Vince and Ana. This is Agne her internship is at Polar Seafood.

Agne is a Bachelor in Export & Technology Management from UCN, she is in the company’s administration together with Hanne & Helle, one of her tasks is shipping documents which requires great accuracy and Agne loves it.

STATUS PÅ CRACK THE CODE
